In this post from 2015, Kelly Dickerson summarized the many ways that the quantum computer can change the world.
Implications for AI
Having one quantum computer is like having 50 million regular computers, solving multiple problems at once. Like humans, quantum computers can learn from experience, and they can do so at a much faster speed than regular computers.
This is the reason why many companies like Google and Alibaba, both developing their own AI software and chips, are scrambling to build their own quantum computer.
With quantum computers, storage is no longer a problem, and processing speed will be unimaginable. It will pave the way for new applications we have never thought before. For sure, a quantum computer will also be the fastest computer in the world, and will ensure that machine learning and AI development will reach new heights.
