Joi Ito is the director of the MIT Media Lab and has been actively advocating the need to consider the ethical and social implications of technology in as early as the design process. In this article he authored for Wired, talks about why we should challenge Singularity, and why Artificial Intelligence is not the answer to the world’s problems. Through this article, he stresses that in the case of AI, we should not rely on controlling the technology. Instead, he enjoins people to look at how AI will be built, and what its intended function in the society is.
